Intergenerational Portfolio Management

Intergenerational Portfolio Management (IPM) is a process of developing a portfolio of knowledge, skills and competencies with older and younger workers working in partnership. The focus of the project was nurses and healthcare assistants in Health Services in Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, the UK and the lead partner, the Netherlands.

Project Aims:

  • To review attitudes and practices regarding older workers
  • To support workforce planning and identify training needs
  • To develop a more flexible and adaptable workforce
  • To support the ongoing professional development of nurses and healthcare assistants
  • To encourage the sharing skills and competencies between older and younger nurses and healthcare assistants

The Issues:

  • An ageing workforce and demographic trends
  • Potential loss of skills and competencies
  • Reviewing policy and practice for older workers in line with EU legislation
  • Intergenerational learning and development

  • A method for Intergenerational Portfolio Management
  • Guidelines for employees, managers and HR staff
  • Online tools to develop a portfolio
  • Guidelines for implementation of the IPM process
  • Evaluation reports of the pilots and examples of good practice
