Brendan Barber to deliver Life Academy Annual Lecture

Tomorrow evening Brendan Barber, General Secretary of the TUC is delivering Life Academy’s 2007 Annual Lecture, entitled “Older Workers in a Changing World”.

The fact that we are living longer is a cause for celebration and in his lecture Brendan Barber will consider the impact of demographic change for pension provision. He will argue that supporting older people who choose to stay in employment is a vital element of any plan to deliver pension reforms.

The TUC have argued for some time that higher employment rates are a better way to pay for pensions reform, and significant increases in the overall employment rate can only be achieved if older workers are one of the main groups to benefit.

Brendan will outline TUC support for measures to assist older people to retain or get jobs, where the emphasis is on support rather than coercion, and steps to encourage positive age management as people move towards retirement.

The lecture is taking place at 18:00 on Wednesday 21st November at One Great George Street in London. There are still a few spaces remaining for anyone who would like to attend. If you’re interested, contact Kathy Victor at Life Academy on 01483 301170.
