Life Academy and TaxHelp for Older People win HMRC funding

Taxation at Retirement

Taxation at the time of retirement is for many individuals the most complex tax period of their life. Frequently, individuals whose tax hitherto has been handled via PAYE, have to deal for the first time directly with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Life Academy has joined with TaxHelp for Older People to gain funding from HMRC. Working together, we have agreed to:

  • develop a workbook on taxation at retirement that will be available later this year;
  • run six one-day workshops in January and February 2007 on tax issues at retirement, for representatives from voluntary sector groups and 'end user' individuals in their constituencies;
  • run a professional members' day on the 20th February 2007 which, inter alia, will introduce the new workbook and increase understanding.

The six workshops funded by HMRC are aimed at 'hard to reach' individuals and Voluntary Sector Organisations working with them. Individuals will be those who would not traditionally be able to benefit from pre-retirement courses, such as those working for small employers; on low incomes; from disadvantaged or minority groups; those in rural or deprived areas; or at risk of social exclusion in retirement.

Those with an interest in the project are invited to contact Life Academy. Your interest might be in 'hosting' a workshop, in having some of your staff or volunteers attend, in having some of your 'end users' attend, or in publicising the workshops to those you support.
