Recruitment to one post in Cambridge

Life Academy is to open a new office in Cambridge to provide the focal point of the new information and guidance service. Two staff will run the office and co-ordinate our local activities. They will be supported by staff from head office in Guildford and our professional members.

During 2008 we expect to deliver information and guidance to over 3,000 people approaching or over age 50 so that they are better equipped to make informed choices about issues such as the late stages of their working life, state and occupational pensions, and finance. We will deliver the service to individuals in one to one sessions or to small groups.

These sessions may take place in employer's premises, community settings or in our own offices. The backbone of the information and guidance sessions will be delivered by the Regional Manager and our professional members but you will be trained so that you are also able to deliver information and guidance sessions.

You will engage with individuals who access our offices in person, by telephone, email, or via the website and organise a programme of group or one to one sessions at employer's premises, in the community or at our office.

Together with the Regional Manager and Life Academy head office you will raise awareness of the new service by marketing it to local employers, professional and trade bodies, trades unions, and community groups. We will adopt an innovative approach to reaching our clients and you can expect to experiment with raising awareness at stands in shopping malls, at local events, through faith and community groups, and social housing providers. Occasionally there will be some evenings or Saturday involvement.

You will also collect and collate data and management information.

You will have:

  • good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with clients of the service and employers, professional and trade bodies, trades unions, community groups, etc
  • the ability to learn the subject matter and develop facilitation skills
  • the drive to raise awareness and market the service effectively to employers, etc and gain their commitment to engage with the service
  • the organisational skills to co-ordinate an ongoing programme of in house and other sessions with tutors and materials and capture data and information about the programme
  • good IT skills

The service will operate during 2008 and you will be employed for about 12 months until December 2008.

Please indicate whether you wish to be considered for a full time appointment or a job share with an indication of how many days you would like to work.

Please send your application to stuart.royston@life-academy.co.uk by 23rd November.

Interviews are planned for 29th and 30th November.
