Life Academy and TaxHelp for Older People are delighted to announce the launch of a new Tax Support Network. The network is free to join and open to all voluntary sector advisors on tax issues for older people.
The network has been developed as an identified need from feedback from Tax Workshops that Life Academy and TaxHelp for Older People have run for voluntary sector advisors on tax issues for older people. Both the Tax Workshops and development of the Tax Support Network have been funded by HMRC.
Voluntary sector advisors of tax issues who join the network will:
- receive regular news bulletins on tax issues;
- have access to a 'private messaging' service to TaxHelp for Older People to get help on specific tax questions
- be able to share with other network members tax related issues on a discussion forum.
Stuart Royston, CEO of Life Academy said: ‘The network will be a great communication support tool for voluntary sector advisors of tax issues. Understanding the tax complexities for older people and keeping abreast of tax changes is a job in itself. Feedback from the 50 tax workshops that have so far been run showed that voluntary sector advisors want regular information and support when talking to older people on tax issues. We hope that the Tax Support Network will become their first port of call and that they will feel part of a ‘family’ of advisors.’
Paddy Millard, Director of TaxHelp for Older People said: ‘The number of older people needing support is increasing. The Network will focus on issues that cause concern for older people who fall below the radar screen of tax professionals in practice’.

Stuart went on to say: ‘We still have some places left in our 2009/2010 free Tax Workshops. The workshops are targeted to voluntary sector advisors on tax for older people. Any organisation who is interested in participating in a free tax workshop should email Life Academy’.
