Module 6 - Organisational Change and Age Diversity

Aims and Learning Outcomes

To consider organisational structures, change theories, and ways of influencing change in the context of age diversity and life planning.

This distance learning module is designed to enable people working in and with companies to develop effective ways of assessing organisational culture and employee needs concerning career and life planning. This will help the organisation to manage its workforce in terms of re-careering, mentoring and succession planning.

By the end of the module, students will be able to:

  • understand the concepts of organisations as complex systems
  • recognise organisational culture from various perspectives including sociological, anthropological and psycho-dynamic
  • understand key concepts of change management in organisations
  • identify the meaning of age diversity, its relevance, and relationship to age discrimination and equality
  • identify ways to implement age diversity strategies in different organisations
  • review the implications for changes in work and retirement for the future
  • identify Life Planning Policy and Practice

Programme of Study / Course Content

  • Identifying the needs of organisational and individuals in relation to career and life planning. Review of organisational models. Company age profiles. Developments in other countries.
  • Considering the key models for delivering life planning within the company. Review of case studies. Identification of best practice. Financial and resource implications.
  • Implementing best practice – problems and issues. Feedback from participants on their impact in this area as change agents.
  • Monitoring and Evaluating policy and Practice. In-company further developments.
