Later Career & Retirement Planning
Traditionally retirement has been received as an event. The age discrimination legislation that took effect in 2006 changes the nature of retirement from an event to a process with employers having to provide adequate notice of retirement and having to manage their older staff on the basis of competence rather than age. Life Academy can help with this process with a later career and retirement planning course targetted at those 5 years from retirement. The course will:
- Review the changing retirement and pension landscape: the demographic drivers and response from government and employers
- Review pensions and finance against likely needs in retirement and equip the participants to identify and rectify gaps in their financial provision
- Look at pensions, investment and risk
- Look at the later stages of work to maintain skills and effectiveness and determine work objectives before and after leaving full-time paid work
- Take stock of what the individual wants to take into retirement and start the planning process
- Understand the ageing process and maintaining health in the working environment.
This programme can be introduced ‘in-house’ in companies to start the retirement planning process that will run in harmony with the company HR policies and culminate in a pre-retirement course.
